We love worms!

Nature is a wonderful learning opportunity for children.

Today we thought we would check on our worm farm...my oh my how our worm whanau had grown!
We were amazed to find mum's, dad's and babies, big worms, little worms, long worms, short worms, fat worms, skinny worms, big worms, medium worms and small worms. We even tried to count the worms! Every kind of measurement you could imagine....we tried it.
A wonderful part of our worm experience was involvement, communication and contribution. We all enjoyed learning more about the worms from each other as we took turns to talk about what we saw and what we knew. And of course.....who doesn't enjoy getting dirty!!!

Levi - the problem solver

Wow we had fun today launching bottle rockets on the hill. I had the first turn and whoops it went right over the fence and landed on the road. (Not a good idea!) After we had retrieved the bottle we turned the launching pad round the other way and off we went. The problem we had is the water trough was empty so we needed to source water from somewhere else. The children’s bathroom we decided ...off went children to fill bottles. Several children came back and said they couldn't do it, but you had already returned with yours full. I suggested you helped the others by showing them how you did it. Eureka! You came back with another bottle containing water. Well done Levi. Then I thought I should ask how you were managing when no one else could. “I did it with my mouth” you said. Mummy and I looked at each other (Slightly horrified, but trying not to show it!) I said come on show me how. (Probably a brave request as I wasn’t really sure I wanted to know) Mum and I followed you into the bathroom.
How to fill bottles (the not so hygienic way) by Levi......
Step 1: Plug the drain with your hand to stop the water running away.
Step 2: When it reaches a certain level suck it up. (like a dog.)
Step 3: Spit it into the bottle.
Yep I wished I hadn’t asked the question! Especially as Mum and I had been soaked with the water several times already!!

I did explain that I was really impressed with your problem solving skills , but that
I thought it was not a good idea to drink the water from the sink because of the germs. Then we had another quick conversation about how we could fill the
bottles safely and hygienically . Answer: A bucket and a cup was the solution.

I have to say Levi you gave mum and me a long lasting memory and a jolly good laugh. Thank-you for the fun we had this afternoon. I really hope we can launch more bottles tomorrow.

We did and we got wet again!
