Siwoo counting

The children were playing skittles and it was Siwoo's turn. He placed all the skittles in the correct shape, and then stood on the line ready for action. He counted the ones he had knocked over and then wrote the number 4 on our list. Well done. Siwoo is learning to make sense of numbers and is finding reading, writing and counting fun!

Ready for reading

Yesterday we'd been talking about letter sounds.  Ruby Leigh said "I know a b word."

This started a bombardment of b words where the children excitedly shared their knowledge...Ruby Leigh was happy to draw the b words while I wrote the words next to her pictures.

Upon arrival today Ruby Leigh said "I know another b word...baked beans!"  And so we begin again...

This time I invited Ruby Leigh to make a video of all the b words she knows...notice how she refers to her poster and 'reads' the pictures and words.  Brilliant!

Developing Social Competency

Awesome things happening at the moment around developing children's social competencies...caring for others, being kind, having a sense of fairness, sharing and turn taking, respecting diversity, taking responsibility and understanding 'feelings' concepts.

Singing super stars

Music and the performing arts feature strongly throughout the kindergarten day.  Often children will stage an impromptu performance, placing chairs invitingly out to entice an audience.  The microphone is always in hot demand!

Here are a few examples of the super singing stars at Bream Bay Kindergarten...

Kiani sings 'Twinkle, twinkle little star' beautifully
Judah sings the 'Morena' song with pride and growing confidence
The girls make a great band
And Oliver does an awesome rendition of 'ABC' ...well done everyone!

Hatching quails

We were lucky enough this week to witness quails hatching from eggs that we had been nurturing in an incubator over the past two weeks.  It was very exciting!

We were amazed how mobile the chicks became and couldn't believe they had fit so nicely into the tiny eggs they had just hatched from. Our parents seemed just as amazed as the children, stopping to see if there were further developments in the morning.  We were pleased to share our journey with everyone...it was particularly special to be able to share the experience with the children at Manaia Kindergarten who we skyped over the internet...

Unfortunately the eggs took rather a long time to hatch so we were unable to show them the quails actually hatching.  However we are pleased to announce that we did manage to catch the big event on video...Wow!

Hope you enjoy, Tania
