Being Sunsmart!

Thank you to Orrs Unichem Pharmacy Ruakaka who generously gave their time to visit our kindergarten today, talking with the tamariki about how they can be sunsmart this summer in our hot summer sun.

Slip on a long sleeve shirt or slip into the shade

Slop on some sunscreen

Slap on a hat, and

Wrap on sunglasses!

Orrs Unichem Pharmacy Ruakaka gave each of the children a sunsmart pack which included samples of sunscreen. lip screen and a voucher for a pair of sunglasses.

Thank you Orrs Unichem Pharmacy.

A little bird told me...

We had a lovely little visitor today...a very friendly little sparrow.
The children just thought it was wonderful.

It was quite happy to climb and hop all over us...what a treat!
We think someone must have hand fed this sparrow.  I wonder who?

The mud pit is fun and full of opportunities to learn.

The mud pit has become a very popular place to play.   Children are learning to share and become part of a unique team of learners. Mud pit play is not only fun - it has as much potential for learning as sand and water play do.  Lots of learning opportunities are developed in the mud pit.  In our Kindergarten mud pit the children learn how to develop relationships with each other and how to work in collaboration.

Loose parts play...Making robots

Yesterday we had a heap of fun taking old, broken appliances apart and sorting.  Today it was all about letting the imagination fly and getting creative with the treasures we'd uncovered.

It's amazing what you can create with odd bits and pieces, a glue gun and your imagination!

Today it was all about making robots!

News flash

What's in a name?

One of the first literacy learning experiences we offer children is the chance to recognise and write their name.  This is in part because children are drawn to all things about themselves and what better way to engage children in early literacy learning!

However when we consider that a name is more than the grouping of several letters of an alphabet which represent the identification of a person.  When you consider a name and the power of a name and it's value, the connections to family and an identity with which a name creates...the question, 'What's in a name?' becomes important.

 We need your help...

We're exploring with the children how they got their name.  You could help us by writing down your child's name story for us to copy into your child's portfolio.  We would like to be able to add baby photos too so please bring in your baby photos for us to add.

Thanks.

Tania, Rowan and Donna.

Mud pit, a place of learning

We love the possibilities that the mud pit offers for children's learning...there's so much to do and so many teaching and learning pathways to follow...and mud is just great fun.  Hope you enjoy!

Goldilocks and the Three Bears

Our book of the month has been "Goldilocks and the Three Bears". The children have loved being drawn into the story. It has been a new story for some and an oldie but a goodie for others. Either way it has opened the door to many new possibilities and opportunities for learning.

The children have enjoyed drawing and writing their own stories...

The children have loved recreating the scenes themselves, acting out each of the roles in the story.

Once upon a time there were three bears...a great Big Poppa Bear, the middle sized Mama bear and the teeny weeny Baby Bear.
